"Humans have not made these marks"
"Humans cannot have made the marks in the field at Elton farm. In two of the rings I register a powerful energy field with the shape of a column", says the UFO expert Knut Aasheim.
By Per Hovland
Knut Aasheim, industrial designer by profession, has a special interest in unidentified phenomena. For a long time he represented UFO-Norway, but is now operating on his own. Early yesterday morning he was in place at Elton farm (a farm near the town of Gjøvik in the south-eastern part of Norway. Ed.) to investigate the formation. Two representatives from The Norwegian Society for Para-Psychology were also present.
Column of energy
- "I did not find any abnormal levels when I measured for electro-magnetic and radioactivity anomalies. But when I tried the dowsing rods, the effect was clear". The dowsing rods he uses are two bent, handheld metal rods. When abnormal energies are present, the metal bars cross over. Among other thing, the rods are used to indicate earth radiation and water veins.
- "This is the only method we have for determining energy fields. Exactly in the centre of the two circular imprints I registered strong effects. By dowsing from different angles, I was able to get a clear picture of the energy that has the shape of columns. How far up these columns go, I cannot tell. One of the representatives from the para-psychological association got the same result when he tried the rods. Humans would not be able to create such an energy field", he said.
Would have risen
- The symbol is so complex and so large that it would have been impossible for humans to make it with out advanced equipment. But the pattern occurred during the dark of the night without anybody seeing or hearing anything.
- It is important to note that every grain stem is swirled precisely in a clockwise direction, as though "pushed" down by a powerful fan. The stems are not broken, but bent. Every stem is curved in alignment with the direction of the swirl. In fact the plants have laid down even flatter during the day. Since they are not broken, the opposite would normally be the case.
- No tracks were leading to the imprint the morning it was found. The forces that have created the pattern must have come from above. But it’s not probable that anything has landed here. What we see here is the results of a special energy. I will not claim that a UFO is behind it, but it cannot be humans.
- I have spoken to a man from Gjøvik (nearby Town. Ed.) who does not want his identity to be revealed. He claims to have seen a multi-coloured craft move in a high speed across the sky in the direction from Lillehammer towards Raufoss (nearby towns. Ed.).
Imprint at Nes
- I try to imagine the motives a person could have to make anything this complicated. These symbols are not well known in Norway. In England many symbols have appeared, says Aasheim, as he shows us a book full of pictures of similar patterns from all over the world.
- Such patterns are referred to as pictograms. The imprints are described as far back as the 1600s, he states.
- We also have to take into consideration that similar markings were found in Nes at Romerike (nearby community. Ed.) last week. The same night that the markings appeared at Elton, new imprints also appeared at Nes.
- After having interviewed numerous persons, I’ve long been convinced that there are forces in the universe that are unknown to us. I’m eager to find out what the patterns mean. Do the symbols represent any form of information? I don’t know. At the first glance the pictograms look like keys. I cannot figure out anything further at the moment, says the UFO expert, who has several times been at Toten to investigate alleged UFO observations.

Restless horses
When I think about it, the horses were especially restless the night before Tuesday. In addition, a land surveyor who came to inspect the formation, says he couldn’t have made a more precise pattern with his advanced equipment, says the farmer Trond Lindbak.
By Per Hovland
The farmer Trond Lindbak stands up to the UFO commotion, but he does not think that the imprint in the field is a prank.
- A friend of mine, who is a land surveyor, has measured the pattern today. He claims that he could not have made anything more symmetrical and precise with the advanced equipment that he is using professionally. In addition, this happened during the night.
- Did the dogs act strangely, asks Knut Aasheim. Animals often perceive more than humans in areas of paranomal activity.
- No, but the horses were restless that evening. They graze right outside our house and normally they are very calm. But the evening in question they came rushing out of the nearby forest and seemed very keyed up. I’ve never seen them like that before. But of course, an elk might have scared them. An elk path goes right by the forest end of the enclosure, says Trond Lindbak to Aasheim. The latter found this horse business very interesting.
It wasn’t us!
You can be absolutely sure that we did not make the UFO-markings. They were no jokes from our side, says Ola Smedstuen who is in charge of the astronomy conference that takes place only a stone throw away from the imprint this weekend.
- It could have been, of course, a god way to promote the conference, laughs Ola Smedstuen from the Gjøvik and Toten Astronomical Society.
- We didn’t think that far, but we will of course take the participants an time to look at the markings. Many will surely find them interesting.
- I have to admit that I believe the imprint has a very earthly origin. The imprint would have had a different shape if something heavy had landed there. We do discuss the UFO phenomenon, but my basic view is scepticism towards such observations, says Smedstuen.
