A growing interest in crop circles
This year, the organisers of the alternative symposium had urged some persons to be present at the symposium. Eva-Marie Brekkestø was one of them. The reason for this was the crop circles that had occurred at Stiklestad two years earlier.

In addition to holding three lectures including slide and video shows, Eva-Marie Brekkestø was present in the symposium hall with a stand, presenting what she refers to as “the world’s most beautiful mystery”.

INTERESTED : Eva-Marie Brekkestø, who admits that she is in love with the crop circles, is more than willing to present the phenomenon.
In love with the crop circles
Eva-Marie Brekkestø, who works as a teacher, tells us that, when she first saw pictures of crop circles some years ago, she was completely lost to the beautiful phenomenon.
- I had an immediate crush on the circles, tells Eva-Marie, who’s already been to England several times to study the phenomenon. Up till now about 10.000 formations have been registered and documented around the world, - the greater part of them in southern England, close to Stonehenge. But crop circles have also been registered in Scandinavia each of the last few years. Of all crop circles registered, some 30% of them are presumed fakes.
Circle at Haug
Two years ago a crop circle appeared in a barley field at Haug, Stiklestad. Many considered the formation to be man-made. Brekkestø does not share this opinion. She feels that it was only natural that a crop circle appeared here, close to a holy place like Stiklestad.
Who makes the crop circles, why, and how do they come about? It’s partly possible to answer the last question, Eva-Marie tells us while she shows amateur video recordings of balls of light moving above English fields. But why they occur, no one can answer for sure. In England about 50 persons claim to actually have seen crop circles appear. During the 1990s two retired gentlemen tried to abolish the mystery by announcing that they were behind most of the crop circles in England. Their claims have later been shown false.
A very old phenomenon
In her slide show, Brekkestø showed close up photographs from inside crop circles. Anyone who had previously believed that crop circles were nothing but flat grain, had to reconsider. The plants were not merely lying flat. Still alive and growing, braided stalks were shaped into fantastic creations.
According to the Norwegian Crop Circle Group, the phenomenon is an old one, known from many cultures. Several research projects are studying plants and soil from the beautiful and mysterious crop patterns.
